Iceland Itinerary: A Magical Adventure

Our recent trip to Iceland was nothing short of spectacular. Here’s a detailed account of our itinerary, with tips and recommendations to help you plan your own unforgettable journey.

Day 1: Arrival and Fagradalsfjall Volcano

We flew with EasyJet from Luton to Reykjavík, and upon arrival, we rented a car from Alamo (rent your car here). After picking up the car, we headed straight to our accommodation to drop off our bags before venturing out to explore the Fagradalsfjall Volcano. This active volcano offers stunning views and a unique experience of witnessing the raw power of nature.

For our first night, we stayed in Grindavik at the cozy Apartments in Grindavik.

Day 2: Blue Lagoon and Golden Circle

We started our second day early with a visit to the Blue Lagoon, arriving right when it opened at 8am. The early morning visit ensured a peaceful and serene experience. We opted for the Comfort Package, which includes access to the Blue Lagoon, a Silica Mud Mask, one drink, and a towel. It was a fantastic way to relax and soak in the geothermal waters. You can book your visit here.

After our rejuvenating dip, we drove for about two hours to Gullfoss Waterfall, enjoying the scenic drive. Next, we explored the Geysir Geothermal Area and then headed to Thingvellir National Park, a site of historical and geological significance. For the night, we returned to Reykjavík and stayed at one of the following recommended hotels:

Day 3: South Coast Adventures

On our third day, we got up early and headed straight for Skógafoss. The early start meant we beat the crowds and had the majestic waterfall mostly to ourselves. Our next stop was the dramatic Reynisfjara Beach, where we warmed up with a coffee from the local shop as we admired the black sand and powerful waves.

Later, we visited Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. By the time we arrived, it was nearly 7pm, and we enjoyed the solitude as we walked behind the waterfall for a unique perspective.

We then returned to our hotel in Reykjavík to rest before our early morning flight back home.

Tips for Your Iceland Adventure

  • Book Early: Popular attractions like the Blue Lagoon can get crowded, so book your visit early to enjoy a more peaceful experience.

  • Drive Carefully: Iceland’s roads can be tricky, especially in winter. Take your time and drive safely.

  • Pack for All Weather: Iceland’s weather is unpredictable, so pack layers and waterproof gear.
